GCOMS (Global Campaign on Military Spending)

Global military spending accounts for 2.3% of world GDP, and this figure is increasing. Governments invest in the military sector, rather than using these resources in favor of human rights. Militarism, in fact, generates serious risks to people’s security and well-being, contributing to the existence of wars and, consequently, causing more than 60 million forced displacements.

The Global Campaign on Military Spending (GCOMS) requires governments to invest in social rather than military spending, at a time of dismantling the welfare state and continued cuts in social policy. Various organizations point out that a 10% reduction in military spending would be enough to achieve some of the main Sustainable Development Goals.

GCOMS also organizes Global Days of Action to Reduce Military Spending to attract public, media and political attention to the costs of militarism.
